Shining a Light on All Things Spring

This world will get heavy… stay unshaken in pursuit of the light.
— butterflies rising

We’re in the midst of the calm(ish) before the funding SUPERSTORM - in other words, a rockin’ summer of FUNding lives! These days, we’re pursuing the light with everything we’ve got, and that means events, events, events.

I’m excited to share that we extended the drawing date for Spring Bling to May 3rd, so you STILL have time to get your ticket! We’re only selling 100 tickets, so make sure you get yours today. We’re also gearing up (see what I did there?) for Drive to Survive, and tickets are on sale now. Sponsorships are also available, so if your business or organization isn’t a sponsor yet, make sure they get in on this! We’re offering great perks for all levels of sponsorships - check them out!

As we look forward to a jam-packed summer, we’re in need of more volunteers and team members than ever before. From Drive to Survive to Warriors for Hope to Scramble for Hope, we will need significant volunteer support with a wide variety of skills - particularly for Warriors for Hope. [If you missed our announcement about the change from Run for Hope to Warriors for Hope, make sure you read last month’s blog!]

Whether you can lend a hand for one, two, or all three events, please reach out to me today if you’re willing and able to donate a few hours of your time to support our mission through these incredible events. Our volunteers truly have a HUGE impact on our ability to keep our mission moving forward, and we couldn’t do it without you!

This month, I am thrilled to announce the launch of a Fund a Life DIY Fundraiser toolkit! As a Do-It-Yourself fundraiser, your office or organization can now create, plan, promote, and manage your very own Fund a Life fundraiser. Throughout your fundraising journey, you’ll have access to our tools and resources to make your event planning process as simple and stress-free as possible.

Your downloadable fundraiser toolkit includes logos & brand standards, a Canva flyer template, a list of suggested fundraiser ideas and our top tips, and a customizable email template to help you spread the word. AWESOME, right?! Check it out here on our website, and download the toolkit for yourself today. Happy funding!

I also have another MASSIVE and massively exciting new project in the works for Fund a Life, and I can’t wait to unveil it for you soon.

We hate knowing that we can’t fund every single grant application that comes our way, and we’re always looking for more ways to offer support for those needing financial assistance during challenging times. We’re currently in development of a Fund My Life program & accompanying platform that will allow applicants, whose grants we were not able to fund directly, to fundraise on their own behalf using the power of the Fund a Life name, mission, and supporter base.

While development continues, there will be much more information to come, so stay tuned!

Lastly, before you go, I want to introduce you to a very special family. This is the Williams family - Jessica, Sean, Logan, and Hannah. In April 2022, four-year-old Hannah was diagnosed with DIPG, a devastating and fatal brain tumor. After a short but fiercely brave fight, Hannah passed away on June 9, 2022. The Williams family faced the unimaginable - daily life without their daughter - all while dealing with overwhelming medical bills and expenses.

In September 2022, Fund a Life awarded the Williams family with a $10,000 grant to help ease some of their heartbreaking burden.

Recently, I asked Hannah’s mom Jess to share her thoughts on what the Fund a Life grant meant to her and her family in the wake of such a tragedy. “Since receiving the generous grant from Fund A Life, we have been able to breathe! After our daughter fought DIPG & passed away, we were worried about the unknown with basic adult life. We had to get back to reality, as they say.

Having financial support really put us at ease, as much as we could be with our circumstances. It was just a blessing to not have to worry about it. We both have wonderful careers, but we were still not working full-time for a while. We didn't have the nagging pressure of paying bills or anything.”

To support Fund a Life in any way is so rewarding. We felt like little angels were helping us out, when we didn’t even ask for it! To feel that love from a community is so powerful. There is good in the world.
— Jess Williams, Fund a Life 2022 grant recipient

The story of Hannah’s life and loss breaks my heart and brings tears to my eyes every time I share it, but Jess’s words are with me daily. Can you imagine being able to say there is good in the world, after the loss of a child? Her undeniable faith serves to emphasize anew the importance of our mission.

To shine light in the darkness. To ignite hope. To remind each and every one of us, during our most overwhelming obstacles, that there is good in the world.

In Hannah’s memory, in honor of Jess’s incredible ability to see goodness despite what she’s experienced, I invite you to join our mission: donate to the cause, reach out to be a volunteer, or simply share this Hope Note with your friends, family, colleagues, and neighbors.

Until next time - keep shining the light!
