SHINING A LIGHT

Meet Mikey Goldner

This grant is more than financial relief, it’s a lifeline. It’s a reminder that in the midst of chaos, there is community. That they are not alone in this fight. Mikey’s family truly believes that his story is far from over. There is so much more life ahead for this brave little warrior. And we believe it too. Because of you, we can keep standing beside families like Mikey’s. We can keep showing up when the world feels like it’s falling apart. We can keep igniting hope.

Thank you for helping us give this sweet boy the chance to keep fighting and the family that loves him the strength to never stop believing.

At just four days old, Mikey underwent his first open heart surgery. Born with a complex congenital heart disease that also affects his lungs, he has faced more in his young life than many of us can imagine.

At seven weeks old, Mikey suffered a devastating setback when a shunt occlusion caused him to go into sudden cardiac arrest. For two weeks, he was kept alive on ECMO (a heart and lung bypass machine) while his tiny body fought for its life. Miraculously, Mikey pulled through. But his journey didn’t end there.

Since then, Mikey has undergone three more open-heart surgeries, the most recent to remove an aneurysm in his heart. He requires around-the-clock care at home and continues to face a future filled with medical interventions and hospital visits.

Despite everything, Mikey is the happiest, sweetest little boy. His smile lights up the room. He sees a team of specialists (neurology, GI, ENT, pulmonology, and previously hematology) and he keeps his family busy. But they’re incredibly grateful for every moment they get to spend with him.

The emotional and financial toll on the family has been immense. His mom stays home to provide the constant care Mikey needs, and with every medical emergency, his dad has had to miss more work. The extra support required for their older children has added further strain. Their savings are gone. They are now living on a single income, doing everything they can to stay afloat while continuing to fight for their son’s health and future.

That’s where Fund a Life stepped in.

With your support, we’ve been able to provide a $6,000 grant to help Mikey’s family with the mounting costs of care and the everyday essentials they’ve struggled to keep up with.
